vinny, vinnsters and get the hell away from that

Sorry about the clear display of junk, but you know, he’s a puppy, so you’ll be okay, right? It turns out Vinny doesn’t love his picture being taken, or, go figure, he doesn’t want to sit still for no reason when he has all the energy in the world to spare. Really, he has all the energy. In the world. and then some.

You guys, he really is freaking adorable. I can’t believe the range of expressions this little puppy makes. Most of which have earned him a mocking nickname of the Saddest Puppy in the Whole Wide World.

He also did the cutest thing I’ve ever seen with my own eyes yesterday. He was trying to explain to me why he should be allowed to play bite my hand. I didn’t want him to play bite my hand because he was scratching my top layer of skin off. I scolded him once and he got down on his front two elbows with his tush up in the air wagging back and forth while he barked at me with his head cocked to the side. How could I scold that face, you guys!? Really!? His aggressive cuteness is one of the reasons why he’s not potty trained yet. Actually, he prefers to go inside. Isn’t that lovely?

But he’s cute, so we keep working with him and rewarding him and trying to train him with intermittent group hugs where we pick Vinny’s 45 lb. frame up and squeeze him together. He nuzzles against us. HE NUZZLES.

I feel pretty lucky to have found a puppy who adores us and wants to be close to us at all times. He howls if he has to be in his kennel and as soon as we let him out, he cuddles up next to us and tries to make up for chewing on shoes, crown molding and spreading the garbage around all rooms of the house.

Epic cuteness, I tell you. Epic. Cuteness.

Wow. He is really, really cute. Because of my recent hiatus from the blogging world I have missed earlier posts about him, so forgive my ignorance – he’s gotta be part Husky, right? But wow, what a sweetie.

I hear ya on trying to deal with cuteness when the dog is being bad. It’s not easy to scold a creature who’s cuter than a little bunny riding on top of a kitten who’s playing with yarn and cuddling with a fawn. Wynette had some playful nipping tendencies that we really wanted to nip in the bud (so to speak) and we ended up resorting to the spray bottle for the first time. We only used it a couple times, but we wanted to make her understand that this was Serious Business. A few little sprays to the butt and she almost never nips anymore – now she licks us frantically during times where she used to play bite. The spray bottle was very, very powerful – just a little squirt and she reacted immediately. It was such a powerful tool that we decided only to use it every once in a great while, so it could keep its strong effect and not get watered down (so to speak, again).

Anyway, I’m not suggesting you use the spray bottle for the play biting. There’s a ton of strategies for trying to correct unwanted behavior. There are times when we have just had to ignore the cute and be firm with her, which has probably been the hardest thing about dog owning so far!

Yep! We think he’s a husky/german shepherd mix, but we don’t know for sure. Ha, for sure. We’re trying a few things, it’s not working 100% so far, ha….so we’ll probably try the water bottle ASAP.

CRAP, that little monster is cute. That coat? That FACE?! No wonder he still poops in the house-I’d never say no.

On an unrelated note, your comment CRACKED ME UP. I love that you Southerners and South-dwelling folk seem so passionate about tea-it’s either a big thumbs up or a get that the hell away from me! For the record though, I’m with you guys, and gave ya’ll a special shout out in an amendment!

Have a wonderful weekend, you two!

xxo, Lena

VINMONSTER! I want to chew on him! Not in a bad way, of course. In that way that some women get about babies — that’s me and dogs. THIS dog in particular. Now I’m going to have to come to Texas and MEET HIM. You too, of course. Of course.

VINSTER! VINEROO! VINNERONGOLICIUS!

he is SOOOO CUTE! (and he’s gotten SOOO BIG!)

I’m sorry to hear about the potty training/chewing/rambunctiousness struggles, but I’m so glad you guys have fallen so very in love with him!! I know exactly what you mean by him getting down on his front elbows with his ass in the air – we can’t help but grin when our dogs are clearly about to pounce on us, too <3

Thanks Nikki! He’s stayed pretty bad…ha…but it’s hard to discipline him…we’re working on it. I know!! Cutest little thing ever when they do that, no?

OMG cute! I so desperately want a dog, gah! Now to find an apartment we can afford, where we don’t need another car, and that allows pets….

You have a nuzzling, adorable puppy? You’re the luckiest, but then, you already knew that every time you looked in his eyes right. Golly, pets are endlessly interesting. Keep taking photos and sharing them — I want to see more. Have a great weekend, darling!

Wow, you need to post pics of this gorgeous male more often :)

Isn’t it nice to see outward signs of doggie love? Sometimes I find myself wondering “Does Tabitha love me, or does she just know that I’m the one who feeds her, and acts accordingly?” And then she will do something like make herself totally uncomfortably by laying upside down and all cramped up and squished, just to be on my lap, and then I know.

OH MY GOD I CAN’T EVEN STAND IT. Nuzzling up? I love it.

I turn into a pile of jibbering goo when I am around cute puppies. It’s actually quite embarrassing.

so freaking CUTE. I just died a little.

My old boss would bring his malamute puppy into the office every day. She was the cutest thing alive… and would pee everywhere. But it’s pretty hard to be mad when they’re so darn cute, right?!
